Last night was spent on the night train to St Petersburg - very much "Murder on the Orient Express" really. But hell TGV is killing em off. 40 year old trains !!! No Sleep - of course, even tho 1st class,
Big trouble was that the slow moving train kept stopping in the night whilst they changed the engine from the front to the back and back again. They also added extra carriages at some time.
Just before midnight the train stopped for 30mins at the Latvian border. Everybody woken up for Customs clearance. Then slow progress for 30minutes till arriving at Russian border. An hour stop there for Visa clearance and the filling of 4 forms and a search of the cabin for Gold etc. Armed officers, fat women - the full works.
Not much point to sleeping then. Quite an experience really.
